The Digital IXUS 970 IS leads the pack with a 5x optical zoom lens--the longest zoom seen in its lineup. The optical image stabilizer is improved from previous models and Canon claims this will allow photographers to shoot at a much lower shutter speed. The Face Detection feature can recognize up to 35 faces, from which you can select one and the camera will optimize the exposure based on that face. The IXUS 970 is slated to replace the popular IXUS 950 IS.

The solid-looking Digital IXUS 90 IS and Digital IXUS 85 IS both sport a 3x optical zoom lens with image stabilizer. The main difference between these two models is the size of the LCD display. The IXUS 90 has a 3-inch PureColor LCD, while the IXUS 85 keeps the standard 2.5-inch screen. The IXUS 85 IS is also able to accommodate an optical viewfinder, possibly due to a smaller display. IXUS 85 IS and IXUS 90 IS are to replace the IXUS 70 IS and IXUS 75 IS, respectively.

These three 10-megapixel compacts also sport the Motion Detection technology, which will adjust the ISO accordingly to achieve sharp-looking pictures even for fast moving-objects, Canon said.

The three shooters are expected to reach Asia Pacific by May. Prices are unavailable now, but we will update once we have the information. So keep a lookout on this page.
