Kodak Wi-Fi card

This nifty device has the potential to revolutionize photo sharing in consumer digital cameras. Previously available as clunky camera add-ons on dSLRs (WT-1 for the Nikon D2H), this wireless transmitter fits into a normal SD card slot and is barely larger than a normal SD media.

The Kodak Wi-Fi card will be available in the US in June and cost a cool US$99.95 (S$165). Designed for range and compatibility rather than speed, the card uses the older 802.11b specification instead of the newer 802.11g. It also includes standard security options of 64/128-bit WEP and WPA standards.

Do note that this device requires an SDIO-enabled SD slot and won't work with any camera that supports SD cards. Although SDIO, or Secure Digital Input/Output, slots have been available on PDAs for a few years now, the Kodak EasyShare-One appears to be the first such digital camera to sport one. After all the criticism heaped on Kodak for falling behind the technological curve in the consumer market, this device could effectively turn the tide for the American photography
