Great megazoom!
Jun 5, 2009Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Very good zoom & image stabilizer, love the flip over LCD, very useful shooting modes, HD video,
Cons: Uses up batteries fast - when low battery indicator is on, only allows for about 5-10 shots more before shutdown. Priciest of the megazooms.
Opinion:
Bought this DC 3 weeks ago after reading lots of reviews on various website (incl. CNET Asia of course). Came down to SX1 and Nikon's P90. Went with SX1 for the HD video. Wanted a megazoom instead of a DSLR to avoid having to invest more $ in lenses & stuff. A perfect upgrade from my old point & shoot as I wanted to take pics indoors and action shots. Zoom and IS comes in handy. Pic & vid quality is very good. Altho noisy at ISO above 400, all megazooms have this disadvantage. I am happy I chose the SX1 as it fulfilled all my needs.
Great Product with some limitations
May 29, 2009Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Super zoom is great fun to use
Cons: focusing in low light is slow and difficult
Opinion:
A great camera that is easy to use with good colours and sharpness.
Noise at high ISO. Slow and difficulties focusing in low light condition can be very frustrating when the next door simple, point and shoot unit can do it easily.
Good news: Raw mode firmware is now available for downloading at :web.canon.jp...

Noise, noise, noise....
May 14, 2009Rating: 5 out of 10 (Average)
Pros: Video
Cons: Stills picture quality
Opinion:
I have had many compacts from Canon, the latest being the G9, and have been very happy with them. I thought I would slowly transition to a dSLR by first buying a bridge, the SX1 IS. BIG mistake. Picture quality on this camera is only acceptable at ISO 100 and below. And even at that level, noise is apparent. Overexposure is commonplace. The only truly great feature of this camera is the HD video with stereo sound - but for stills, look elsewhere (like the Panasonic G1 for a comparable price).
I am so disappointed I have gone back to my G9, will be eBaying the SX1 and buying myself the EOS 500D as soon as I can.
Worth the Price!

Pros: Makes consistent and fantastic pictures and Very Clear HD videos!
Cons: You need to bring extra batteries, always. No HD cable in the package
Opinion:
It is really worth every centavo/Peso! You get high quality clear pictures and very clear and beautiful HD videos. The clarity is just superb. It is a very good bridge between SLRs and Digital cameras. A perfect companion for travelers and parents who like to keep good memories of their families.
