A superb camera in the semi-pro range!

Pros: Well made magnesium alloy body with good performance.
Cons: Live view could have auto focus instead of manual focus.
Opinion:
I have used Canon Eos film cameras including 10D and went over to Nikon and back again to Canon Eos 40D recently. I
enjoyed using this camera and the results speaks for itself.
Pair it off with the standard zoom,ef-s 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 and decided to purchase ef-s 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM and never
looked back. It is as good as any other semi-pro digicam
available but much cheaper than Nikon D300 and Sony a700.
Range of lenses is easily available OEM or third party lenses. A highly recommended camera for the enthusiast and
above. Would be much better if live view is auto focus instead of manual focusing. This is a very solid camera with the battery pack attached. The results speaks for itself!

 

It is the camera I always needed.

Pros: It is made the way a camera should. Love the feel of the it.
Cons: Need to put the manual on a DVD most people will relate to it better
Opinion:
I have had the camera for a short time but it is like a first love.Ever time I take a photo it is a new adventure.
I have had no problems with it at all .I was thinking it wound be a lot harder to use.I read hundreds of reviews and look at a lot of video on this camera.. I have had a lot of
cameras in my time now I'm back with Canon to stay.
Even thow I can' get away from all the plastic in a camera this 40D has a good start over other model's

 

Perfect for my needs

Pros: Burst mode, Expanded ISO, Liveview, sRAW, Huge screen, Logical controls
Cons: Noise at 3200
Opinion:
My 40D is called Abigail, after Whistler's daughter in Blade Trinity. She's fast, agile, beautiful, and most importantly, she kicks butt!

I upgraded from a 350D so it was an exponential leap for me in terms of usability and features. The controls and menus really make sense and I haven't opened the manual once since I got her three weeks ago.

Coupled with a Sigma 70-200mm 2.8, she is LETHAL. Samples at anakbrunei.org...

The only downside to this machine is the high noise levels especially at expanded ISO of 3200. Samples of that also at the same link above.

The best digital SLR I have tried besides the EOS 1Ds.

 

Fantastic, worthy successor

Pros: Great low light performance, robust design, integrated image sensor cleaning, high fps & buffer, big screen, easy to use and powerful
Cons: Full frame would be nice but really expect this from the next level up.
Opinion:
This is my 3rd dSLR, and a very worthy successor to my 20D. I've taken many photographs with my 20D and was not motivated to the 30D, however the 40D's a significant improvement in most (maybe all) dimensions and I'm happy that I didn't delay buying it.

Although I have some high end L series lenses, the 17-85 EF-S available with Kit II is a great buy, and a suitable 'default' lens before I pull out the 'big glass'.

My camera did need some pixel tuning, however Canon did so without hesitation and returned it to me 3 days later.
I thoroughly recommend this camera; two of my friends have since bought the 40D and a few more are about to. Canon have got it right with this; get yourself the Kit II, you won't be dissappointed.
