Oct 5, 2006Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: overall photo quality
Cons: not a DSLR altho ppl mistake for one
Opinion:
had this for 10 months and still a great workhorse, battery life is decent and a good go between for a candybar camera and a DSLR, with aperture/shutter/manual settings, set up like a pro with lotsa manual adjustments. priced to sell and i know lotsa ppl who love this cam
Worthy compact

Pros: light weight with superior image quality
Cons: no hot show flash.
Opinion:
don't be mistaken by the post below. i have taken perfect quality pictures of the moon and have no trouble with focusing at all! Although no manual focus, this camera has a work around using the focus button.
sadly this compact does not have a hotshoe for flash, but this problem is solved thanks to 3rd party flash.
just a bad batch of lumix zs I hope

Pros: light weight
Cons: will not focus on the moon at all
Opinion:
I am on my second fz5 since christmas and have too many focusing problems. Not only will it not focus properly on the moon, I just discovered it doesn't have manual focus so I am out of luck. My roommate has a canon s2is which works perfectly and captures the moon crystal clear, even at maximum zoom. Will take this one back to circuit city tomorrow and trade for canon. What a shame, what a good camera the lumix could be.
Small package. Big pictures.

Pros: One of the lightest megazoom performers.
Cons: Has a problem in bad ligting.
Opinion:
My first megazoom digital camera since my first digital camera, my Finepix A101.
This camera is all worth buying. The 12x zoom. Lightweight. Excellent battery life, and fast focusing. One of the key notes why this camera is abit more sucessfull then the ranked no. 2 powershot s2is, is because it uses rechargables instead of 4x AA alkaline batteries.
Also, if you read the reviews from Dpreview, www.dpreview.com... , a professional site with indepth review about cameras, you will note also that the Fz5 has image quality equalling the Fz20, but with a lighter packaging.
Although i must say that i can be a problem when it comes to low lighting, it can be easily solved using a tripod.
Hence, i give it a 9/10 rating. And i won't hesitate anyone who is currently for a well-prices megazoom camera, with a top class image quality.
Outstanding

The most important requirement for a DSC is - image quality. Panasonic FZ series always offer the sharpest image. I compared it with its rival Canon S2IS in a few stores, Canon's picture quality, as usual, foggy and far less sharp than Panasonic. The bad of FZ5 - max exposure is just 8 secs. I compare the following also:
Panasonic FX9 vs Canon Ixus (700MPixel), Panasonic LX1 vs Canon S80. With Leica lens, Panasonic's picture quality is far sharper.
