The good: Excellent image quality; gorgeous new LCD screen; HDMI output.

The bad: No Live View in Automatic mode; Creative Auto mode seems out of place.

The bottom line: The 50D is remarkably similar to the 40D in terms of performance, looks and features--but if you can spare the extra cash, it's a much nicer package.
