First Take

By Rich Trenholm, CNET.co.uk

The Olympus Mju 780 is a blinged-out low-rider of a camera. The first thing you notice is that it's very square, and very shiny. The controls are chunky like the grill of a Cadilllac, although the mode wheel seems tiny by comparison. ...

Still no optical viewfinder

Rating: 7 out of 10 (Very good)
Pros: Good list of specs. Would like to know the sensor size.
Cons: No optical view finder
Opinion:
Having to wear spectacles for reading, makes the rear LCD impossible to read without them.
An optical viewfinder overcomes this human frailty.
Otherwise, it appears to be a great product with a fine set of features. Sensor size is important for image quality so will be interested to see final specs.

A mixed bag

Rating: 7 out of 10 (Very good)
Pros: Excellent quality of photos and sturdy build. Up to ISO 1600. Shadow Adjustment feature that works.
Cons: Maximum duration of video at 640 x 480 @ 30fps is 10 SECONDS ?! Olympus please do something!!
Opinion:
Overall, a great purchase. Photos turned out really well. The Shadow Adjustment feature really helped with the outdoor pictures in bright sunlight (against the sun). Sturdy build with a 5x optical zoom. Panorama function (requires re-editing in their own PC software).

The only disappointment was a firmware limit to the maximum duration of video at 640 x 480 @ 30fps. Its only for 10 SECONDS! At lower resolutions (15fps) its unlimited. I have no idea why Olympus gave this limiting feature.
