First Take
There will be times when you want to stab yourself after you've purchased a product, to find out two weeks later an upgraded model claiming better performance and specifications. Let's put it this way. The Fujifilm FinePix S9600 offers only minor upgrades to its predecessor--the FinePix S9500. But at least the upgraded model didn't come two weeks after--it took a year. ...

Outstanding results at a modest cost
Oct 30, 2007Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: It does almost everything you need to a high standard in one package
Cons: Manual focus is a bit hit & miss, switching from RAW to JPG requires deep menu probing
Opinion:
I've used this camera for 6 months and am more than pleased with my purchase. The excellent built in lens has true wide angel at 28mm, and great telephoto at 300mm. This is a prefect range that will suite nearly all situations. It doesn't have image stabilization, but its high ISO performance is so much better than similar cameras that you don't need it. ISO 800 produces very acceptable results even with 12"x8" prints. Build quality and handling are also far better than might be expected - just hold this camera and then try some of the budget SLRs. Stick to the ISO 80 setting and the image quality really will challenge budget SLRs, producing excellent 16"x12" prints. Nearly all the controls are to hand and just where you want them. I would like to have seen a quicker way of changing from JPG to RAW than delving into the menu (RAW gives more control and 18 million pixels) and ... Read more
Good Prosumer Camera
Jan 2, 2007Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Excellent Build Quailty & Night Shoot
Cons: 2in LCD
Opinion:
This camera is very excellent as a training camera for hobbist photographer to familiarise with the DSLR, before investing the ahrd earn bucks on this expensive hobby.
The camera is well build and has a "swivel" 2in LCD for shooting at various difficult positions (only Canon Powershot, Panasonic FZ50 & Olympus E500 has this capablity). However, it would be nice if the LCD is slightly bigger.
In addition, this camera allow the use of AA battery and CF card. This will reduce the overall investment on this camera as well. Lastly, the 2 additional years of warranty by Fuji Singapore is well thought move.
It is sad to see that this camera is not gaining marketing momentum as compare to the Canon Powershot 3 IS, Panasonic FZ50 & Nikon D40 competitor over the same price range.
