First Take

By Damian Koh

It's another case of camera manufacturers releasing new digicams which are merely incremental upgrades to the current product lineup. Frankly, these scenarios have been happening so often that we're beginning to predict the upcoming models fairly accurately. While the FX07 may not be as enticing to users who own a similar, but older, shooter, we feel it warrants a quick look to unearth the differences. ...

User Reviews

Good quality (revised remarks)

Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Wide angle, easy to use
Cons: Auto settings not so great
Opinion:
I should update my previous review. After experimenting some more with the manual settings, I am able to get significantly better quality from the camera. On Auto settings, I find the output acceptable for websites though disappointing otherwise, but when I utilized the SCN (Scenery) feature (Day scenery, night scenery, beach, etc.) and tried various settings, I am able to get some good photos. Actually, the colors are better than with some of my other cameras when I use the best SCN setting, and I am very happy about this. The sharpness is comparable and not worse, just as clear.

In SCN mode, Panasonic gives you many options, and I suggest you get familiar with these from experimentation. The quality of the photos is so much better when you use these, in both color and clarity.

Compared to other cameras, this camera is relatively easy to use. Panasonic has designed the menus ... Read more

Rating: 2 out of 10 (Terrible)
Pros: Long Battery Life, Nice Display, Small
Cons: Very poor picture quality
Opinion:
Its an outrage they call this a 7 mega Pixel camera. My older Canon Elph 3.2 Mega Pixels took better pictures on a constant basis. (I miss that camera) This Panosonic gives me a very blurry detail at 100% for this Camera - DMC-FX07 . I got burned, bought it in Bangkok and I am extremely unhappy although it is a nice camera to look at in a display. I might be just one of a few who got burned (damaged image sensor at factory or a defect of some kind is my guess), I have had it for a month and I would say it takes pictures at the equivalent of a 2 Mega Pixel Camera. buyer beware! Check it before you buy it. It takes huge pictures that are blurry undefined detail, you have to shrink it to 25% for it too look somewhat good. I would bring your own memory card to the store (SD) take a ... Read more

Good value!

Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Wide angle compact! Optical image stablisation, high ISO
Cons: Noise at high ISO
Opinion:
Panansonic is a brand that is to be reckon with considering its short history in camera sales compared to the other major players like Nikon or Pentax. Its partnership with Leica has resulted in a wonderful marriage of technology and quality lens! For this price, u can get a quick compact with wide angle quality Leica lens, optical image stabilisation, 7.1 megapixels for post image editing, cropping and processing; simply good value for money! most bang for bucks!
