The bad: Big camera body; auto white balance is bad with tungsten lighting; relatively expensive.
The bottom line: If you can get past its large size, Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FZ50 is a decent choice for a superzoom.

If you can't get the shot, you can't play the game!
Feb 23, 2008Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Easily the best all round performing camera on the market
Cons: Slight tendency toward noise at higher ISO's
Opinion:
As a freelance photographer I have shot over 3000 pictures with the FZ50 and have come to one conclusion. There is not a single camera that can serve as it's back up except another FZ50 or the FZ18! Reason: During photo assignments you need to go from 100 mm to 400mm in an instant. With that kind of power you can get "people close ups" in a matter of seconds from as far as 20-30 meters away. The Leica lens on it ensures that images will be razor sharp and virtually indistinguishable from entry level and many enthusiast DSLR's in general circumstances. The proof I can present are the clearly defined craters on the moon as well as crevaces on mountain 20-25 miles away, or the hairs on the back of a bee! Take your pick. And if another camera outperforms it's image quality guess what. It does not have the focal range to match the variety of pictures acquirable ... Read more
Top Camera among the class
Sep 2, 2006Rating: 9 out of 10 (Spectacular)
Pros: Superzoom of 12X optical, 10 megapixel, RAW format supported, ISO up to 3200, full manual control
Cons: Nothing much to complain with its class
Opinion:
I have bought that camera at Japan last week and have taken about 150+ photos so far. The photo quality is superd and the superzoom is very useful and clear. The interface is very easy to use and the manual control is very good to use of. Recommend for its price. I am not regreted to get that camera and would like to recommend to people that would like to enjoy photography but with limited budget...It is worth of the money that you have invested...
