CNET Asia Review
Very good
The good: Relatively compact; beginner-friendly mix of manual and automatic features. 7.2
out of 10View score
The bad: Poor high-ISO image quality; slow autofocus in low light.
The bottom line: Beginners will applaud the Samsung GX-1S's automated features, but advanced shooters might wince at the menu-centric controls.

Not so Pro
Feb 2, 2006Rating: 3 out of 10 (Poor)
Pros: 6 million pixel, good metering
Cons: simply not for the professional
Opinion:
even when digital have not rule in the picture market, many brands like NIKON, CANON and PENTAX were already the leading brand in manufacting professional SLR camera. Todays digital SLR camera are equip with strong features and brands like NIKON and CANON are coming out with high end professional DSLR eg. like D200 and EOS 1D mark 2. Samsung simply can't replace the professional side, but for the user who wanted to explore more on DSLR or is decided to get one and not knowing any about professonal photography, this can be a good choice.
A wannabe that never will be.

Pros: Pentax system inheritance
Cons: Not a complete system
Opinion:
The dSLR/SLR market is perhaps one of the most niche market in that a any market entrant will face very high barriers of entry and with little chance of success. It is dominated by buyers who are either professionals or serious enthusiasts who would buy into a system of flashes, lenses, support, accessories. The most important being the flash system as well as the arsenal of lenses for various shooting environments ranging from macros to tele, shooting in glamour to astro-photography. Hence there is no way i can forsee any brands new to the SLR/dSLR market unseating Nikon or Canon. the users are entrenched to the system of excellent lenses and flash system, the designs of which are refined thro generations of R&D and had earned the trust of users, both Pros and serious hobbyists. It does not make any economic sense at all for users as well as manufacturers to suddenly adopt a new brand with no availablity of ... Read more
