The good: Compact design; good overall performance; flexibility.

The bad: Slow retracting lens speed; slightly confusing interface and layout of controls.

The bottom line: With its substantial 8x zoom lens, and improved color management and reproduction, the CoolPix 5700 is an exceptional upgrade from the CoolPix 5000 and should appeal to the serious hobbyists.
