Meet Olympus' new quartetHaving just introduced the Mju 1060 last week, Olympus today four other shooters that will appeal to different target groups. The Olympus SP-565UZ is the latest superzoom model from the Japanese firm, and it succeeds the SP-570UZ. While the naming convention makes the SP-565UZ sound like a lower end model compared to the SP-570UZ, the specifications are not. In fact, not only does it have the same set of features as its predecessor, the new Olympus has more shooting options as well. The Bird Shooting mode is to be used with the optional teleconverter which extends the reach to 1200mm, and Olympus claims this mode will optimize autofocus and shutter speed to capture sharp images of our feathered friends. There are two new additions to the Mju family, and they have taken on a new facade. The slim and stylish Mju 1040 features a sliding lens cover similar to what we've seen on Sony's T-series of shooters. This design implementation was also brought over to the Mju 1050SW, the new rugged camera from Olympus. What's unique on the 1050SW is the new tap operation which supposedly facilitates access of commonly used functions with gloved hands (in cold countries). There are sensors on four sides of the point-and-shoot, and they correspond with the functions mapped to the four-way navigation buttons. Last but not least is the entry-level FE-360. Like most of its siblings in this family, the controls are simplified for easy operation. Targeted at first-time users, this compact camera houses an 8-megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens and 16 scene modes to help beginners start snapping decent pictures. Although the new additions do not seem to be follow current trend of cameras with touchscreen operations or high-resolution sensors, it looks like Olympus targets to have a shooter for everyone, whether you're a novice, fashionista, adventurer or the aspiring photographer. |
