How to select an Olympus camera

The µ(mju)SW-series

This spinoff from the Mju-series harks back to the film-based, weather-proof Mju. But it has been reinvented to be shock-, crush- and freeze-proof as well. Olympus is targeting those who live their life under the sun and need a tough and durable shooter. Although we won't readily admit that the Mju SW-series of point-and-shoots are stylish, they do have their own unique charm.

Price range: S$499 (US$367.39) to S$649 (US$477.83)

In this series

Olympus Mju 1030 SW
If we could, we'll call this shooter the "mini tank" because it is built like one. Olympus told us the metal exterior is compliant with military standards, which is why this compact can withstand harsh environments and treatments. Parents with young children can consider this point-and-shoot as well--you'll never know when Junior will bring it along for a dip.
Other related models: Mju 850 SW and Mju 795 SW
Quick summary
This shooter is one of those gadgets you know can withstand rough handling by toddlers and survive to make another picture.
