How to select a Fujifilm FinePix camera

The F-series

The F-series is Fujifilm's flagship lineup, aimed at discerning consumers who want only the best quality. One of the reasons shooters in this series are so popular is because they are built on the critically acclaimed F31fd platform. These shooters are focused on performance and mean business. With a high ISO 12,800 sensitivity and proprietary Super CCD technology, the point-and-shoots can capture even in the dark without activating the flash. But these extraordinary features come at a price--Fujifilm told us that due to the slim architecture, the snappers can accommodate only smaller batteries, which mean reduced shooting time.

Price range: S$279 (US$205.41) to S$699 (US$514.64)

In this series

FinePix F100fd
When this shooter was announced in January, we had high expectations for it. After all, its predecessors were extremely capable and we expected better performance from it. We weren't disappointed--images captured at high ISO sensitivities were one of the best we got from a point-and-shoot. The extensive shooting modes and 400 percent increase in dynamic range should also please advance photographers.

FinePix F480
The lack of the "fd" prefix at the end of this model indicates that there is no face detection technology in this unit. The larger-numbered lineup is a more affordable option for shutterbugs who don't need fancy features but insist on the essentials. It would be a sin to call it "no frills" when it has a 28mm wide-angle lens, 4x optical zoom and 2.7-inch LCD.
