Camera oddities: More of the weird and the wonderful

By Edvarcl Heng, CNET Asia

From a bouncing camera to a postcard that snaps pictures by itself, there is simply no telling what those wacky inventors would get up to when they are given leeway in camera design. For a departure from the usual humdrum, digicam manufacturers ought to pick up one of these jokers for a laugh.

These pictures stink

You've seen pictures that lie, musical picture frames and cameras that help you fake it. But did you ever think we would finally get to the scratch-and-sniff stage? Get those olfactory organs working with pictures that are worth a thousand scents.
Unclear on the concept: Night-vision Webcam

So let's get this straight: Night-vision devices are supposed to help you see things in the dark, like those night dart launchers, right? Not the other way around? That's what we thought, anyway, so we have no idea why anyone would want a "Night Vision WebCam".
You've got mail on your camera

Still in its conceptual stage, the Snap+Send digital postcard looks set to kick butt. Combining a 2-megapixel lens and a 10cm screen onto a postcard-sized cardboard shell, the Snap+Send digital postcard is small enough to be sent like what you'd usually do for your snail mail.
115-megapixel camera: Do not try this at home

This one is made from an ordinary flatbed scanner and a large format camera. This home project, however, is not recommended, unless you've too much time and money to spare. His gear? An old Horseman 450L monorail 4 x 5 camera and a modified Canon LIDE 20.
Talk about a bounced shot

The satuGO is short for See Aim Throw captUre & GO. Still clueless? Well, it's the fusion of a bouncing ball and a 3-megapixel camera. Positioned as a fun alternative, the satuGo takes pictures by bouncing it on the floor. How's that for cool?
Honey, I shrunk the camera!

Cameras the size of a shirt button running on a single battery for years may soon become a reality, according to the ingenious team at the institute. While it may be a tad difficult to visualize a digital SLR shrunk to the size of a shirt button, think miniature units for use in wireless security cameras.
Disney princess 2-in-1 locket digicam

It's understandable that parents spoil their kids especially during year-end holiday seasons. But this locket digicam is something you should really think twice about before forking out the money. Because on top of a VGA camera, it comes packed with a carcinogen as well.
Peeping clock for pre-orders

For an extra dash of bedroom fun, try LukWerks Spy Camera which works like, er, a spy camera. But it's disguised as a digital alarm clock--perfect if you want to find out what your spouse has been up to when alone. What about live video? No problem. Just plug the device into any electrical outlet and the videos will be sent via the power line to your PC.
