Snapshots: Kim Lau

By Edvarcl Heng, CNET Asia

Kim Lau, it seems, is born to shoot pictures. His love affair with photography began in 2004, and a year later he was already shooting pictures that are of a quality most amateur photographers will give their camera bodies for. Evocative and full of human interest, we think that viewing Lau's pictures is almost as good as being there.

The images you see from this feature have been reproduced with permission from Kim Lau. If you wish to be featured in our interviews or know any photo buffs who may be interested, write to us, and we'll get back to you.

Name:
Kim Lau
Type of photographer:
Travel
Equipment:
Olympus E-1, E-410, OM1

About myself:
I am an audio and music digital signal processing engineer by training and an avid traveler. In 2004, I took up basic photography in preparation for an extended overland travel in Asia in 2005. The journey traversed through China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Pakistan and back into China again via the Karakorum highway.

This journey became the experience of my life. Since returning home to Singapore, I have held a personal exhibition at Orchard Library, Singapore. Like many others, I yearned to travel and take pictures as a profession.

Taj Mahal, Agra, India
The gem of Mughal architectures--this shot was composed in good, even light, while I was really tired, sitting on the marbled floor at one corner of the Taj. I waited for an appropriate human subject, for quite a long time before snapping.
