Features
If you can overcome the less-than-gentle learning curve of the buttons on the V10, the rest of this should come easy. Fujifilm's answer to blurry photos comes in the form of high-sensitivity levels up to ISO 1,600. You can select from a total of seven settings (auto, ISO 64/100/200/400/800/1,600) with the Photo Mode (F) button on the top edge of the V10.
Compared with cameras that sport optical image stabilization, for example Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FX9 and Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-T9 which utilize some form of shift-type mechanism to compensate for hand shake, using a high ISO setting with a fast shutter speed also means increased noise in the pictures. We'll find out later in our image tests whether images at the maximum sensitivity level are actually usable at all.
Another new feature on this 5.1-megapixel V10 is the double-shot mode. Selecting the Natural Light with Flash mode commands the camera to take two consecutive shots--one without flash and the other with flash. For the uninitiated and clueless, this is a godsend especially when you cannot decide to use flash or not. However, that also means the available capacity on your xD-Picture Card will run out at a faster pace.
Most other features on the FinePix V10 are nothing to shout at. The 3.4x optical zoom lens extends from 38mm to 130mm (35mm equivalent) and has an aperture of F2.8 to F5.5. There are no aperture- or shutter-priority modes on this unit. What it does have is a manual option which allows you to compensate for exposure, set white balance, autofocus and select high-speed and continuous shooting. On a Fujifilm 512MB xD-Picture Card, you can record about 7.4 minutes of VGA movies at 30fps.
Besides the usual suspects, the V10 comes with a selection of four onboard games: Number puzzle, block buster, maze and shooting game. We had our chance at shooting down enemy spaceships and sliding number puzzles, but prolonged gaming sessions on the V10 just isn't our cup of tea as the tight arrangement of the buttons tends to cramp our digits.
