Since the DSC-T1 has proven a hot seller despite some of its flaws, we see no reason that this newfangled Cyber-shot won't enjoy the same success given its homogenous roots. On paper, this ultraslim camera has just about everything the DSC-T1 has--with the exception of the sliding lens cover.
Like the DSC-T1, the DSC-T11 has its sights set on the upmarket fashion crowd. Without the sliding lens cover, this latest Cyber-shot arrives slightly trimmer, lighter and will undoubtedly fit easily into your pocket. However, a camera that looks this good deserves more than being tucked away in a pocket. Sony has endowed the DSC-T11 with a much larger neck strap attachment loop compared with the DSC-T1, signifying the manufacturer's intent for this to be a neck-worn unit.
Beyond aesthetics, we expect the DSC-T11 to be just as quick and nimble as its elder brethren. However, we also hope this new baby improves in the image quality stakes, especially with regard to the metering modes.
After scouring the Sony Web site for images of the DSC-T11, we were unable to find one with a picture of its base. At this moment, we're not hopeful that the new shooter will sport a tripod mount--one that was sorely missed on the DSC-T1. The other potential downside is the exposed optical lens, which may cause some problems with dirt and scratches. The DSC-T1, while slightly heavier and thicker, at least features a functional slider to protect the lens.
Pricing and availability details were sketchy at press time. However, we hazard that the DSC-T11 will cost approximately the same as its elder brethren, given the identical specifications. If anything, this may mean you'll just need a cool S$0 (US$0) to get onto the hip bandwagon.
