User Review for Canon PowerShot SX10 IS

Great value for the money

Rating: 8 out of 10 (Excellent)
Pros: Huge zoom, very sharp photos, face recognition software, lots of flexibility
Cons: Controls jammed too close, bad night shooting, manual not very well-written
Opinion:
I really like the 10 MP sharpness and love the 20X zoom, but the cam is difficult to hold because of the closeness of the controls and I find myself pressing buttons that I did not intend to press. I wish these new digital cams had some remote trigger capability, like the cable that screwed into the shutter release of the old, 35mm SLRs. I know you can use the timer on a tripod, but that really does cause loss of timing your shot for the exact moment you want to capture.
I don't like the camera's night performance, and pics indoors using flash are often really poorly exposed.
Those things aside, I am able to zoom into scenes and capture super sharp images, and the recovery time on the camera is superb. The batteries last long enough for a day and night of shooting a lot of photos (perhaps 200, many with flash) and I use a 4 GB card so never have too little space. Carrying a spare card and extra set of batteries sure beats lugging extra lenses when traveling, and a recharger makes life easy.
I would buy this camera again, and I hope that as time goes on, I can learn more about using all it's features.
