User Review for Nikon Coolpix P5100
Overall a fairly average camera
Dec 9, 2008Rating: 6 out of 10 (Good)
Pros: Lightweight, wide range of accessories
Cons: Slow focusing, high ISO noise
Opinion:
I got this to supplement my 360 VR photography gears with a DSLR. It is lightweight and coupled with a FC-E8 Nikon fisheye lens via the Nikon UR-E20 attachment, I only need 4 shots to be able to produce a 360 VR albiet of lower quality. For fun 360 VR, this is the setup I bring along with me. For those VR that will become keepsakes, this is a "no-no".
Bracketing of exposure is auto thus will be be fully "understood" for merging HDR images however, it can be overrided manually in software like Photomatix. Focusing is frustrating too much of the time but it seems across this range of Nikon point and shoot, it is common for it to lock into focus as fast I would hoped it will be.
Build is excellent and handling it even with bigger guys's fingers/ palm to a little girl's hands (PROVEN!) fits nicely. Allowing for attaching one of Nikon SB series of flash is a big plus too for bounce flash or simply external source of light.
