Prevent "lens error"

It has been noted that it may be easy to accidentally power on the camera while it is inside its case or in a situation where the lens is not free to move. If this happens you may damage the lens unit inside the camera. When the camera is used again the lens either comes out and goes straight back in with lens error or when zoomed to full, the lens retracts with lens error. The best safeguard to avoid this is to disable the REC and PLAY button power-on option. (MENU - SET UP - REC/PLAY - DISABLE). Please either make sure this option is disabled or take extra care to avoid pressing the REC or PLAY buttons in the above situation. Another safeguard is to leave the camera in the voice recording mode when not in use. In this mode the cameras lens will not extend if the camera is turned on. The voice recording mode is indicated by the microphone symbol on the mode selection dial.
