If not for the XDs
Mar 6, 2009 09:40 PM
Yes if not for the XD card only set up, Olympus had all the advantage to be the top in the pack.It had 26x unlike Nikon and Kodaks 24x and Canon's 20x zoom and RAW format unlike none of the competetiors.
But then what keeps many away is XD card only use and that also upto 2GB only.
Olympus is always ahead with something but at the same time minor features keep them at the bottom ultimately when it comes to sales figures.
SP-590UZ

My digital camera experience is all Olympus and I would like to know the objection to XD cards. They are all I know and I like them, but wonder why others do not. My other question is, does anyone know if Olympus still plans to release the SP-590UZ in March?W4SU 3/12/09
xD Picture Card vs SD/SDHC cards
Mar 15, 2009 11:59 PM
well, for one, SD/SDHC cards have higher capacities than xD Picture Cards, which is capped at 2GB. Also, the prices of SD/SDHC cards are significantly lower than that of xD Cards, when we compare similar storage space. One reason that Olympus may give up xD-Picture Cards soon is the fact that other brands are now coming out with rugged cameras too, and they uses SD/SDHC cards. So right now, we just have to wait and see if Olympus will bow to pressure and adopt the more commonly used format.
XD only format?

According to the specs on this camera, it supports both xd and micro sd. The link below gives the details, and the next to the last paragraph under details states:39 available languages make the camera menus comprehensible for nearly everyone. And dioptric correction means those wearing glasses can also comfortably use the viewfinder. Pictures can be stored to xD Picture Card, or – thanks to a bundled attachment – to microSD Card
