Canon EOS 40D

Andrew needs to study the 40D a bit more than he has

1. the 40D absolutely does have the ability to auto focus while using live view.

2. since when is the fact that the sensor size is the same as the 400D rebel mean anything? the two sensors are vastly different. size doesn't mean anything. the main differences make the two completely different in terms of image quality.

Sorry, Andrew, but I didn't get any further than your pros and cons as if those are so far off, the rest of your points have no credibility.

Just being blunt and honest. Sorry.

RE: Andrew needs to study the 40D a bit more than he has

Hi pdqgp,

Thanks for your observation. Well, yes, the Canon EOS 40D can autofocus in live-view. However, you have to use the AF-on button to do so, unlike say, an Olympus or Panasonic DSLR that does the autofocusing via a traditional half-press of the shutter button. This workaround was mentioned in the review.

Secondly, while the sensors in the EOS 40D and EOS 400D may be different, I was simply pointing out typical consumer sentiment that they are paying so much more for no gain in resolution, such an important specification. That is why I said that perhaps some less learned potential buyer may "feel cheated."

Burn mark/stain on lcd panel

Hi, thanks for an interesting review on the 40D. I bought mine on September 2nd and took it out for the first time this past week end. I noticed a burn mark/stain on the left hand side of the lcd panel. This does not seem to affect the propoer functionning of the camera but it bothers me as it is visible/obvious especially outdoors ( I did not notice it indoors). Has anyone experienced the same?

This review needs to be updated/re-worded

"The EOS 40D cannot autofocus in Live View"

"Live view allows only manual focus"
---
These words are misleading and should be changed. I agree with the other commenter that the statements about the 40D not being able to autofocus are incorrect.

This review should be updated and reworded. Otherwise it could scare away a lot of potential 40D buyers who aren't as well-versed in current dSLR technologies.

Cnetasia owes this to their readers.
