Did not install software before connect camera

Yes, despite all the warnings on the packaging, I still managed to not install the software on the CD before connecting my Canon Ixus 60 to my computer. (I thought it was there, but had forgotten that my computer had been reformatted some time ago).But strangely, I was able to upload my pictures without the software. Bur after I installed the software, my computer can't detect the camera anymore. What do I do?
