Beauty cam, the trustworthy ally for video chatters

The worst moment for a dedicated video chatter, especially for a lady chatter, hits when she is most defenceless. I mean, when her full heavy facial armor is down. When she has scrubbed off her powders and paints for the night.

Elecom beauty cam package.
Beauty cam in action. Rather smallish.

Men are generally shameless, they have no such trouble. They can answer video chats anytime, rain or shine, their pants down or up. Well, except some hopeless Narcissists, probably.

All right, what shall we do with this nemesis of the ladies? There exists a couple of Web cams which sort of rescue the situation.

Elecom UCAM-E1W30TNWH. Package says: "You come out beautiful through this Web cam. Prettier with lighter skin tone!" Ah well, nothing magical actually. First, its lens is F2.1. The image comes out nicely in a rather less lighted room. Second, your image goes through real-time image retouch procedure. That's all.
Price tag: 7,875 yen (US$68)

Buffalo/Melco's beauty cam package.
Larger eye is the lens. Smaller central eye--LED spotlight.

Buffalo's Web cam, BHC-35H03B "Bihakuppuri" (beauty and lighter skin) takes a different approach. When its Beauty Mode is on, a bright spotlight turns on and automatic white balance adjustment kicks in. As every digital camera fan knows very well, a wrong white balance can turn a portrait of Snow White into Ms Frankenstein, or vice versa. Well, not exactly. The other way round would be far more difficult.

Both Web cams use CMOS chip, 640 x 480 pixels. Their beauty effect... not guaranteed.
