"Keys me": Viva Hot Babe on YouTube

Posted by babelmachine
Is Viva Hot Babe Alyssa Alano on her way to becoming the Internet's new William Hung?

Hung, of course, is the man whose American Idol audition performance of She Bangs in 2004 gained him a cult following when a clip of it was posted on a fan site and took the Internet by storm. Hung’s song-and-dance rendition of the Ricky Martin hit ended up endearing him to legions of Internet users, leading to numerous guest appearances, magazine pictorials and even recording deals.

Now, the Filipina actress' rendition of the Sixpence None the Richer song Kiss Me has made its way to YouTube and the Filipino blogosphere.

I first saw it courtesy of Gabriel Mercado's blog post about the infamous video clip.

The blog post links to the YouTube clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leW9nn8ZCAM and has also embedded the video.

The video clip, which reportedly shows Alano's performance on the GMA-7 late night TV program Master Showman Presents, was given the title Keys Me because of the way the song lyrics were pronounced. The video clip features karaoke-style scrolling lyrics that supposedly reproduce how the words sound like in her performance.

Based on the scrolling lyrics, here's her version of the first few lines of Kiss Me:

Keys me...
Beat in the verdict
Valeey... Nightlee
V-side the green green grass
Swing swing
Swing the spinny stef
You vur the shoez
And I will wear the dress

The video clip Mercado cited on his blog has been viewed 59,374 times as of this writing, and was uploaded by calimanok on YouTube. It should be noted that at least one other copy of the clip is also available on YouTube--the one uploaded by kazmuth has been viewed 6,590 times.

The video has elicited over 200 comments and spawned an online controversy, with some users saying it's a funny clip, while others complain that it is a case of Filipinos mocking fellow Filipinos--or even racism. Some point out that it is in poor taste to make fun of accents, or bad singing voices.

Readers are warned that a number of these comments on YouTube may be offensive.
