Showcasing the drool-worthy
Tech at Gultekadi market
Oct 15, 2009
Downloading and paying for applications online may be all the rage, but a very different kind of transaction unfolds everyday at a marketplace in Pune, India.
PUNE, India--Horns blaring, whistles blowing, an exotic (occasionally overwhelming) blend of smells and rhythm of motors beating away were what greeted us when we first arrived at the Gultekadi market Thursday morning, on a side trip to experience Nokia Life Tools. It's a little like the Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok, only bigger, with a whole different genre of goods.
We are at a real marketplace, one that's totally unlike the virtual Ovi store for downloading applications. Here, agricultural produce and rupees take the place of software and credit.
