GM lent a model of its Saturn Vue plug-in hybrid, due for production in 2010, to demonstrate how Coulomb's charging stations work.
Also on display were conversion kits, such as from A123 Systems. Its Hymotion branch sells a battery meant to turn a regular hybrid into a plug-in hybrid getting the equivalent of 100 miles per gallon. A123 of Watertown, Mass., also makes the lithium-ion battery destined for the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid.
Plug-In Supply of Petaluma, Calif., billed its Prius conversion kit Tuesday as the first to cost less than $5,000. Specialty hybrid mechanics, such as those at Luscious Garage in San Francisco, can install the systems for a fee.
