Solazyme rethinks algae
Jul 4, 2008
Biotech company is exploring how algae can be used to make everything from biofuel to cooking oil and skin care products.
Harrison Dillon, president and CTO of Solazyme, displays some of the oil his biotech company has produced from algae.
Algae produce natural oil similar to the oil burned by millions of cars, and the South San Francisco, Calif.-based company is working to use that ingredient to pursue renewable-energy opportunities.
CNET News.com reporter Kara Tsuboi visited Solazyme. Click here to watch video of her tour, which included tasting a sample of cooking oil and riding in an algae-fueled car.
