There are lots of things people can do to make their homes more energy efficient. Perhaps the most expensive retrofit is to put solar panels that generate electricity on your roof. It's green, but it's not cheap.
It costs a lot of money upfront--in the range of US$20,000 to US$35,000--and makes most sense in states where there are high electricity prices. Tax credits and other incentives can whack quite a bit off that up-front cost, and there are a growing number of financing options.
