Wii swings into action

Nintendo shows the next-generation console and its motion-sensitive controller.
Nintendo says its newly named Wii console is about the width of three stacked DVD cases and will play single- or double-layered 12cm optical discs, as well as 8-centimeter Nintendo GameCube discs. The Wii system comes with 512MB of internal flash memory, two USB 2.0 ports and built-in Wi-Fi capability. The console contains wireless Internet connections with IEEE 802.11b/g, or with a USB 2.0 LAN adapter.
Wii will run on a PowerPC CPU, codenamed "Broadway", that was developed with IBM, and will include an ATI graphic processor. Nintendo did not commit to a launch date or price--saying that Wii would launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and its price would be named later.
