Olympus' last pro-oriented dSLR, the E-3, was announced in 2007. That'd make it three years old this July, and long overdue for an upgrade. There are speculations online pointing out that the the E-3's successor may take a leaf out of Ricoh's book and go modular.
This means the camera body, sensor unit and lens can be separated and paired up with other peripherals to achieve other functions. In this instance, the company can combine the Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds line of shooters by making them modular and compatible with each other.
Is this even remotely possible? Of course. Just look at the Ricoh GXR system to get an inkling of what Olympus may do. That said, this rumor has only a FT3 stamp on 43rumors, meaning it's just a possibility and not confirmed.
