Last week, US operator Verizon Wireless announced the CDMA-based Motorola Droid, the first smartphone to come with Android 2.0 which is the latest version of Google's mobile operating system. Unfortunately, there was no news of a GSM/UMTS version--until now. A German blog leaked a photo of the device headed for O2 in Germany. Its name will be the Motorola Milestone and will apparently cost 481 euros.
Boy Genius Report did a little more snooping and found the device listed on O2's Web site, so this can be filed under "as good as true". So, now that we know Motorola's Android 2.0 slider will be available in a GSM flavor, what does it mean for us in Asia? Well, nothing currently. The company hasn't even said anything about releasing its last Android smartphone, the Dext, here. But we are keeping a close eye on this, and will report once Motorola is ready for Asia.
