Nokia announces availability of the N9 in Singapore

When we last saw Nokia's N9 at CommunicAsia 2011, we were definitely impressed with the handset. However, we did feel that the N9 would have been the perfect device to have launched the Finnish company's partnership with Microsoft for its Windows Phone 7 smartphones, but alas that didn't happen.

A later "leak" revealed that Nokia did indeed put WP7's Mango onto the N9, though the company  has yet to confirm actual retail availability. For now, you'll have to make do with the MeeGo-powered N9, which will be making its way to Singapore.

The smartphone will be available this monthin October from all telcos, with a retail price of S$799 (16GB) and $899 (64GB) without operator contracts. Nokia has confirmed that the N9 will be made available to the rest of Asia, but declined to comment on when this would happen and how much it will cost.

If you're thinking of picking this one up, be sure to read our hands-on with the smartphone. Nokia has kept the N9 pretty much unchanged, except for a new feature that lets you close apps by swiping downwards from the top.

Update (July 20 1227 GMT+8): Nokia has just informed us that the Nokia N9 will be available from October instead.

No more NOKIAS for any of us here! Absolute disgrace! Too many ideas with problems in NOKIAS these days.

The worst of all phones in the smartphone category of the decade has got to be the NOKIA N8. All the shops are giving it the worst trade ins or do not even want it. I really liked Nokia Care service though, unfortunately those people behind the counters really cannot do much for the several technical glitches N8 had. Go to any Nokia forums and see the disappointment Nokia had with many of their phones in 2011.

Whats wrong with the formatting on your site? My post looks like one big jumbled mess, it wasn't like that when I typed it out.

People look at superficial hardware specs of the top-end Android phones... And their (at this point) similar or lower prices, & conclude that the N9 64GB is a rip-off. Nothing could be further from the truth.... They don%u2019t realise that there%u2019s areas in hardware that the N9 64GB actually beats the best Android phones. There%u2019s more areas where Android phones win, but for many of those areas it%u2019s debatable whether it%u2019s a clear-cut/meaningful win. The N9%u2032s OS is looking superior overall, the Ecosystem is where there%u2019s still a big question mark.%u2028 But it%u2019s growing steadily, so it can%u2019t be shafted totally, esp. when there%u2019s so much functionality built into the OS. I wish people made more of an effort to inform themselves about the N9. I don't blame them though. Because much of the official doco/communications has been muted, inconsistent, & downright wrong. You have to trawl several less public/official sources, to get a more accurate picture.
