Michael McGuire

Formerly known as Mr. Whatever Mike has reissued his entire catalog
and is now going by his god and mom given name. Having recorded
thirty plus albums since 1988 you can find a small sampling of them
here and use the link provided to hear all of it.
With such underground classics as Electric Babylon, Vampires, Geeks
and Lovers and Songs from Nowhere. Mike made a name for himself
back in the mid-nineties, of course back then the name was Mr.
Whatever.
Mike?s music never imitates and he covers a lot of ground incorporating
everything form folk to rock to classical to electronica the end result
being a kind of Alternative?s Alternative. His guitar playing is
superlative. Sometimes going into long solos in a style all his own that
at times is so passionate and provocative that the listener is left drained
and speechless (don?t believe me? just listen to the one at the end of
Dumb Blind Blues Singer). His singing is as equally passionate and he is
never afraid to really let it bleed. He sometimes amazes me with the
sincerity he can deliver in a line and he can do so because he?s not
trying to be sincere he simply is. All of this ability pales in comparison
with his lyrics which can stand on equal footing with any of the best
lyricists out there. A clever and witty poet and also a soul bearing
balladeer. Here is one of my favorite examples from the song ?Ode To
Something?
?Maybe the poets search for god?s monologue,
is the divine caught in humanity?s rut,
in this bleeding oneness I suffer distinct,
ode to something I know not what?
Back a few years ago he took everything off the Internet and started the
monumental task of remixing and remastering everything and even
completely reworked some of the older records to improve the sound
quality.
Now finally finished (except for 3 more yet to be released) all of these
records are now available, many of them for the first time. You can use
the provided link to download complete albums and sometime in the
near future they will be available at ITunes.
