In early December 03, Michael Palumbo (Rhythm Guitar/Bass) was playing some Pearl Jam in the halls of Earl Haig, the band's high school, and he was approached by Liam Lawson (Vocals/Bass). From their mutual interest in Pearl Jam, they decided to collaborate on the song "Even flow" in Earl Haig's next assembly. In search for a percussionist, Michael asked Alex Tanas (Drums) if he'd play the backbone part. Alex agreed delightfully. Mike then rounded up the next two parts for the song. After a few chats with Maneli Jamal (Lead Guitar) in politics class, they got together for a jam session and clicked. A special guest, Kathryn Palumbo, was then chosen for the bass role and it was settled. A week later the rehearsals began and talk started spreading throughout the group that a band should be formed under the name Boondoggle.
Focus stayed strong on the performance approaching and weekly practices were in order until the big day on the 19th of December, which marked the first live performance of the soon to be Red Shell members. The show was powerful and let the people of Earl Haig SS know that a strong musical statement was on the horizon.
With the taste of live performance lingering, the band abandoned the name Boondoggle and pulled up Red Shell, and got things under way. The band was made out of the four of them: Liam, Maneli, Michael, and Alex. Over the winter break and throughout January, the guys worked like dogs to get the wheels in motion. Michael's basement served as creation center where they could form their little musical babies.
