Artist Description

Moray started playing drums in the indie scene in Edinburgh in the late 70s. After recording a couple of 45s with 35mm Dreams and The Shop Assistants, he moved to Osaka, Japan. He continued giging on the drums with The Flower Brothers, Combo Congas, and a couple other Osakan bands. At the same time, Moray was turning to the guitar and begun to explore open tuning and slide. He also became fascinated in ethnic percussion, in particular the Udu, an African clay percussion instrument that makes cool deep bendy sounds. Moray?s Udu playing can be heard on Mango Juice, a track from the Shonen Knife CD Heavy Songs.

Moray records solo, in his home studio, Studio 21, and with his band My-T-Hi. Depending on the My-T-Hi line up, you might find Moray out front on the guitar, or equally at home behind the drums. Several of his songs are available on the garageband.com web site and also at his bands web site.

Moray?s combination of indie guitar, ethnic percussion and self taught piano, give his recordings a slightly quirky, rocky pop sound with some unexpected percussion. Combined with slightly odd lyrics, it is well worth a listen. Some of his song titles include: Beer, WMD, Curry, It doesn?t Work.
