Artist Description
Strobe love rock'n'roll. It's quite simple really. And who can blame them? Armed with a bag of classics in the making, cranking guitars and explosive drums these five guys from northwest Sydney put on quite a show.

The idea of Strobe was born when Rob Edwards (vocals) started writing songs in the wee small hours of the morning. Not having the faintest idea what to do with them he called in his old school mate Sam Crews (lead guitar) who found, much to his delight, that the songs were in fact not shit. The group's next addition, widely known as 'The Mysterious Beardsley', is still something of an enigma but, luckily, he?s also one helluva rhythm guitarist. Rick Townend (bass) joined soon after, adding balls to the Strobe sound, a process completed when Scott Ellis parked himself behind the drum kit. Since then the boys have played host to local and inner city venues creating a loyal yet ever-growing fan base along the way. The casual intensity with which they punch out their big hooks has proven them an originals band worth turning up to see. Songs like 'Hearts of Gold', 'Lunar Lady' and the thundering 'Bar Lights' electrify the room with an air both thrillingly brash, yet heartfelt and sincere: a showcase of big things to come. Their influences range from classic 60's rock, swaggering post-punk, poignant ambient soundscapes to thunderous, boisterous home grown rock?n?roll. Strobe, both their music and lyrics, have an untailored refinement, a contradiction of rock sensibilities that will no doubt have mass appeal. This was evident late last year when the group?s track 'On The Park' was included on the Foghorn Records 'Grow Your Own 9' compilation. Most reviews proclaimed Strobe to be one of only a handful of acts (on the album of twenty-one) worthy of attention. A fact rammed home by live shows that put some other acts to shame and earned the respect of all who were present. More recently the group has negotiated distribution of their debut EP through Reverberation, the label belonging to You Am I's Rusty Hopkinson. The five track EP begins with 'Tell Me All About It' and a revamped, turned up to eleven rendition of 'On The Park'. It also has an acoustic epic in the form of 'Just Like Me' and live versions of both 'Lunar Lady' and 'Bar Lights' that perfectly capture the sheer force and inescapable fun of any Strobe show. With searing vocal lines, big guitar riffs and monster drum beats, Strobe simply are rock'n'roll. It's a long way to the top... ...but just try and stand in their way.
