POWERHEAD don't mind being tagged as Stoner Rock band, they don't in fact mind being called anything as long as it has the word ROCK in it. Because Rock is the heart of Powerhead. But they do not keep to a set formula. Powerhead bring in many different varieties and influences. They can swing from a seven minute doom epic to a two minute garage punk rock song. From the standard influences of groups like Kyuss, Fu Manchu and Black Sabbath to the early psychedelic experimentation of early Pink Floyd, Powerhead bring in Hard Rock, Boogie, Garage,Grunge, early Punk, 80s Hardcore, Thrash, Metal, Glam and goddammit just straight up Rock'n'Roll. Because Powerhead are about bringing the fun ,and most importantly, entertainment back into Rock! Groups like The MC5, Kiss, Ted Nugent, (pre 80s) Cheap Trick, AC/DC and The Hellacopters are reflected in this aspect of Powerhead's music. With their debut EP "Shadow of the Thunderchief" getting favourable reviews and airplay overseas with consistant and incendiary live shows around their home town of Sydney, Australia, Powerhead are a 3 pronged attack to be reckoned with. Featuring veterans of the Australian underground scene, with Anthony Keena on guitar and vocals whom is also a respected Sydney based live Sound Engineer, an ex-member of the seminal Noise/Metal act Public Hanging in the shape of Paul Hardcorben on drums and Charlie Holmes on bass and vocals, a prolific ideas mand and talented illustrator. Even though Powerhead have a sound as deep as the Grand Canyon and as heavy as Uluru, the song is always paramaount. With hooks so big you catch a Marlin on them. This gives Powerhead the ability not to just appeal to a hardcore Rock crowd but to a much broader range of music fans as well. They are showmen, entertainers and performers! The "Head" are here to give you a good time.
