Budget check: How much should you spend?

The saying that "you get what you pay for" has been the general rule when it comes to your next purchase. However, we've been playing with a few budget offerings which deliver more punch than their price tags suggest.

The cheap JVC Marshmallow provides good sound quality for less than S$50 (US$36), which is easier on the pocket. On the other hand, the Ultimate Ears 700 boasts great sound quality, but the high price tag of S$379 (US$271) will be out of reach for many.

While we loved the active noise-cancellation feature on the new Philips GoGear Muse, the Philips SHE9750 in-ear headphones provide excellent noise isolation plus good sound quality for just S$60 (US$43).

Still eyeing expensive gear? We found ways to get a similar level of satisfaction for a lot less.
