The "Genius of the Web" awards was announced by the Web 18 group recently to recognize outstanding industry achievements by companies that have done commendable work in the Indian online space. The awards spans over 19 categories, having over 87 nominations.

According to data from research service Venture Intelligence, Internet and mobile VAS companies in India accounted for only 13 percent of the venture capital investments by value in the first eight months of 2007, as against 38 percent during the same period in 2006.

Sectors like BPO, IT services and enterprise technology saw more venture money invested during 2007 as compared with the Internet and mobile VAS sectors.
