This report from Roland Soong strikes me as a representation of what is wrong with mainstream media but what also provides hope for the mass media.

Essentially, Soong has a meeting with someone who works in a western mainstream media outlet and then corrects information for that person after being given a list of information sources that this particular news outlet used to come to a certain conclusion about "mass incidents" in China.

More Google for your travel

My email brought me an encouraging and strange message today. Expedia, the American online travel service, is launching a tie-in with Google. If you are one of those sorts who use their Google home page to do searches, you can now click on some links and get an Expedia code that displays a "fare saver" calendar on the page.

China accepting lawsuits from prisoners "tortured" at Guantanamo?

It's a question mark, because the only source for this idea is from a comment left on Rebecca MacKinnon's blog.

You can read the comment from Charles Liu.

Hey, I just heard the Chinese courts are accepting lawsuits by people jailed in Abu Gahraib and Guantanamo, who were tortured by Blackwater security contractors supervised by the US Government.
