From China to Los Angeles

Posted by sprocket
I am leaving briefly from this city lacking in the festooning of Christmas cheer for Los Angeles, and then to Las Vegas, where I will spend Christmas pulling slots with my humble and gregarious mother. We will gamble the night away, bringing in the holiday season with poker chips and cabaret girls. What a way to spend Christmas.

I will bring delightful tales of Los Angeles and Las Vegas to this blog in my absence from Asia. Please enjoy.

I will spend about 12 hours in flight between Hong Kong/Taipei and Los Angeles. I anticipate being able to watch all of the movies that are not in Hong Kong. And being satisfied, I shall sleep with my head in one of those inflatable headrests, wearing two pairs of extra socks because my feet always get cold.

One leg of my return journey to Hong Kong ends in Anchorage, Alaska. I have never been there. I am not even sure that anyone actually lives there. I am tempted to buy some duty-free champagne and to open it on the plane. How many people do you think will actually be on the plane on New Year's Eve?

Timeless ad

And the fact that it's there could be a good thing. It shows that editorial and advertising are not aware of what each other is doing, preserving the editorial integrity of the magazine.

But, you'd think by now someone would engineer a new ad...

Thanks to Roland at EastSouthWestNorth for bringing it to my attention.

Google hints at new office in Singapore

Posted by sprocket
Today, Google hosted a media luncheon in Central, Hong Kong. It served turkey and prime rib and a Christmas pudding, which I didn't eat because I had to get back to work.

I wasn't taking notes at this briefing, but a couple of things stuck in my mind from the event, much like the way a piece of gristle is now stuck to my teeth right now. Google also gave me a thermal mug, and I am quite delighted about that.
