"Gadgetry" and the Economic Crisis: How Does It Impact You?
Posted by sevenichWith practically the entire modern world feeling the pinch of a Wall-street initiated economic crisis, our passion for gadgets is being tempered.
Most tech companies are already reporting seasonally lower sales. Several gadget stores here and abroad are not necessarily empty. In fact they still have considerable customer traffic, but fewer are actually buying.
What's even more sad is that the economic crisis has come just as really exciting technologies are emerging... thinner notebooks (powerful functions without breaking your back)... cooler netbooks (small but actually useful)... powerful digicams (small yet challenges the many features of much bigger DSLRs)... mobile internet devices from Apple, Nokia, Sharp, etc... LCD projectors as small as cellphones... LCD TVs at a price range that make you want to have one in your kitchen!
How has the economic crunch impacted you so far? Me? Simple: I buy gadgets that are a bit ahead of its time, upon release, so that I don't need to upgrade for a year or two, so in effect, I am a bit insulated, there really is so big incentive to upgrade my laptops, my digital cameras, my gadgets in general. Hence the impact is more like "gee, if I have extra cash, I will grab one of those netbooks just to have an alternative versus my bigger/faster laptop."
