World of Warcraft gets a new distributor

With iGamesAsia going out of business just a few months ago, many Singaporeans have been wondering if they will be left in the lurch when the upcoming World of Warcraft Expansion--The Burning Crusade launches in a few months' time. Thankfully, AsiaSoft, the company behind the successful Maple Story, has taken over the distributorship and now looks set to be a major player in the gaming industry in Singapore.

Olinda & Taufik impeccable, Ken forgettable at digital album launch

It was the launch of the first pure "digital album" in Singapore, with Olinda and Taufik putting up immaculate performances that wowed the cosy crowd of journalists at Velvet Underground this afternoon. But their boss, Ken Lim, failed to live up to his reputation of being a straight shooter who tells it as it is. Perhaps he had to be diplomatic, considering it was a joint collaboration between StarHub, Sony Ericsson and Hype Records.

Singapore to get free national Wi-Fi from January 2007

In case you haven't heard, Singapore is launching its free national wireless broadband service called Wireless@SG from January 2007. Here are the basic facts.

(1) This is national wireless broadband, not nationwide

Yup. If you think you can now access the Internet wirelessly anytime, anywhere in Singapore--Chinatown, Orchard Road, CBD, town centres, the Singapore River, Holland Village, the wonderful Mamak shop (Indian Muslim shop that sells roti prata, teh tarik, etc...) near my home and even at the beach--then you are both right and wrong. All those places mentioned above will be be covered under the Wireless@SG project. But not the entire Singapore will be covered.

Free broadband in Singapore?

Is there ever free lunch in Singapore? Almost. In an interesting move to convert dial-up users to the broadband wagon, StarHub has launched a new "FREE" Broadband service. Anyone can simply walk into a StarHub shop and purchase a cable modem for under S$80, go home and plug it into the SCV wall socket (most new non-landed homes come with it), and start surfing. But there's a catch.
