Macs safer than Windows? NAAAAHHHHHHH
Posted by Oo Gin Lee
OK, I have to confess. I'm not a Mac user. But when was the last time you heard this smug reply from a Mac fan that Mac is so much more secure? Even experienced IT journalists and my friends have said this to me. They are willing to splurge on the Mac, because it looks cooler (which I agree), is easier to use (which I also agree), and because (and this is where they will pause for emphasis) the Mac is so much more secure. True? I never thought so, but who am I to say otherwise? Well, now Symantec's CTO has said so.
In an interview with a local newspaper, he was asked the question: "Apple Mac and Linux users have always said that they are safer from viruses, worms and hackers compared to Microsoft users. Is there any truth in this?"
His response:
"As an Apple user myself, I think those who believe they are safer from viruses than Windows users are MORE NAIVE, NOT MORE SECURE.
"They may feel safer because there is more publicity about attacks on Microsoft products, but that's really just a PERCEPTION thing. That said, there may be some validity about this in the open source area, as vulnerabilities in open source software are typically patched faster than proprietary software."
Eat your hearts out. Maccies, but don't kill me. I'm just the messenger. ;)

Symantec's CTO is also waiting for his big bonus to come because his mac antivirus software won't sell. I would place my bet he wouldn't say otherwise would he? heh classic conflict of interest.
