The evolution of rodents goes on

Yes, even a lowly mouse can slowly proceed up the evolution ladder. The red or yellow LED optical mouse has, so far, completely replaced that primitive wheel mouse. That's a pretty natural Darwinian process, as you know.

Now, the optical mouse will be in danger of extinction this time. What will come next? The laser mouse, of course!

The function is the same as its optical predecessor. Laser beam from a tiny laser generator reflects on the desk surface and jumps into the recepter sensor. The evolutionary strong point is, well, actually not much. You can operate this laser mouth on virtually any surface, that's all. Including a shiny mirror surface which drives your optical LED mouse into total gaga.

So far, two firms brought their laser mouses to high-street shops. Buffalo/Melco and Logicool. Wireless and wired versions are available. Price, something around 5,000 yen (around US$45).
