From cloner haven to global heavyweight, Taiwan continues to reinvent itself
Taiwan cage-match: Yahoo! vs tha Google
Posted by jonathangardnerGoogle Taiwan seems to be timidly upping the ante recently: Looking to hire some local peeps, unveiling Google Taiwan maps, etc. Then there was all that Google-Phone Android hoohah. Local Taiwan vendor HTC is trying WAY TOO HARD to get mileage out of its "alliance" with Google... and 33 other worldwide partners. Enough already, HTC boys. We know you are very proud of yourselves, but don't count your chickens yet. No one really knows where this whole G-Phone mess is going.
Then this week, Yahoo! Taiwan kicks it up another notch. From DigiTimes:
"At the ongoing 2007 GSMA (GSM Association) Mobile Asia Congress in Macao, Yahoo! announced the launch of a version of Yahoo! Go 2.0 in traditional Chinese in Taiwan, marking the entry of Yahoo! Kimo (Yahoo! Taiwan) into the mobile market in Taiwan, according to a Yahoo! Kimo press release. Yahoo! Go 2.0 is a mobile Internet access software program that allows handsets or other types of hand-held devices access to Yahoo! online services, said vice president and general manager David Ko for Yahoo! Connected Life Asia. To provide Yahoo! Go 2.0 services, Yahoo! has cooperated with 20 mobile telecom carriers around the world with 16 of them being in the Asia-Pacifc region, according to Yahoo! Kimo."
Uh oh, Google and HTC buddies, what's going on? We'll just have to see now, won't we? As with most of the announcements that Google has been making recently, this is really obtuse. I wish Yahoo, Google and Microsoft could just send out simple announcements that actually say or show what you will be able to do.
However, I DO love the idea of a Mobile Asia Congress! The floor now recognizes the Senator from the Philippines.
Keep watching for more throwdowns, smackdowns and hair-pulling by the Yahooligans and the Googlers.
More to come

No matter what you will do, Google rules cyberspace. To me, the Yahoo! Search engine isn't as good as Google, Yahoo! seems a bit to complex, and it never seems to meet my keywords.
But on mobile, I have no idea what can happen there. I've only used WAP so far, and google's WAP site was a bit confusing, compared to the organized Yahoo! WAP site.
Wait, I just re-read the article, and I suddenly thought of Google's Android, it might be similar to that, only just accessed via internet

Actually I sometimes get better results on Yahoo than on Google. That aside, I won't place all my money on Google yet given the increasing bad rep I hear them getting from the market. Take this for example, from the CEO of one of the biggest hosting companies in the world mattheaton.com...

I agree with DaneFil. Since Google already is in powerful command of the web it makes sense for the brand to continue dominance on mobile. Actually since many users are still being adopted for mobile web I think in HK and Mainland for other web searches like Baidu to be supreme on mobile as more people become well-known with their mobile phones and the mobile web.
