Is there anything Wang can't do?

Posted by jonathangardner
Taiwan's NY Yankee Wang Chien-ming may not be making colonial bread in the US, but he's quickly becoming one of the top product promoters in the local market. He's on a serious money train, sought after as the celebrity endorser of choice for any brand looking for a boost. Our friends at
DigiTimes
tell us that now mobile operator/broadband biggie Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) is trying to light a Wang rocket under its Multimedia On Demand.

Baseball's always been a Formosa fave, though general popularity has certainly seen a boost since Wang hit Major League Baseball. Now, Chunghwa's cut a late deal to get simulcast and rebroadcast for a total of 200 games. A little late to the game as the season's already underway. It doesn't really matter much as the company seems aware that most people here will be watching for only Wang, MAYBE one of the other TW players in the MLB (as if in Wang's shadow anyone here even knows who those guys are) or maybe Sox-tosser Matsuzaka.

But, will I sit in front of my PC and watch the games? Doubt it. I got ESPN on a big screen at home and, man, my eyes are tired of looking at my little monitor.

More to come.
